I would equate it with a comedian speaking in a stereotypical or dumbed down dialect that they believed was a humorous way to represent how a person of a different ethnicity than their own would speak. The group being represented in that way would most likely find the portrayal insensitive.

Agreed. There was actually a point during this episode when I thought, "Why is there silence here? This should have a musical cue."

I thought the Tenth Doctor's sacrifice for Wilf was beautiful. This, on the other hand, did very little for me. YMMV (and obviously does).

I couldn't agree more about the deleted scenes on the DVDs. There's so much rich material there.

She's no Tyra. I'm on my third rewatch of this amazing series and somehow I always manage to forget how much I cannot stand Becky until she appears and then…ugh, Becky.

    I enjoyed it very much.

Same here. I own the DVDs and watch them periodically.

I agree with all of this, except for the fact that I never actually watched 30 Rock.

He is the reason I cannot bring myself to even try 30 Rock. Nothing to do with how he's presented (I have no idea, never having seen an episode); I just find his very presence so grating in every role that I've given up.

Some of us are just catching up.

I would love this so much.

I prefer John Simm but I also think Missy is a great character.

Interesting. I own box sets of one through nine and this is the first season that I've thought (so far) I won't need to buy. It's just not doing anything for me at all.

I haven't, but (as I commented elsewhere) I love Gene Kelly: A Life of Dance and Dreams by Alvin Yudkoff.

I think it might be more fair to say Donald O'Connor was terrified to work with him INITIALLY because of his reputation for demanding perfection (sorry for the all-caps, my keyboard is being weird and won't let me underline or italicize for some reason). To quote his remarks after being cast in that film in "Gene

I haven't yet read the book reviewed here (looking forward to it) but I highly recommend Gene Kelly: A Life of Dance and Dreams by Alvin Yudkoff. I believe it's available on Amazon and it's one of my favorite biographies.

I'm going to steal this line and use it when trying to convince others to watch this show.

Agreed. That scene moves me to tears.

"It does give even the most dedicated optimist cause to take a second look at the water level in that glass."

That is such a depressing fact.
