I always thought the idea of therapy — of any kind — is to generally provide a vehicle through which one can ultimately come to one's own conclusion or resolution. Now, obviously, if you've hit a wall and there's really no clear benefit in continuing, the therapist should consider referring you to someone else who…
Interesting. Because I read it as "Throat-warbler-mangrove."
Whoa. I had NO idea about that. That's…pretty disappointing, because I thought that, while Season 2 was unnecessarily slow, the characters were the most interesting. Killing off those characters was, I think, a mistake. The comic, for its flaws, is still pretty good up through Compendium 2. By Compendium 3,…
Sure thing. I hope I didn't spoil anything for you. I could go on…at length…about HIMYM and its various failings, but even if you're just getting into it, you're likely well aware of the split in the fandom over the finale and the final season. Suffice to say I think it's a show that fell victim to its own success…
Nope. The HIMYM ending was all the writers. The only thing that CBS may have done was demanded that they reveal the actual Mother character instead of never seeing her face or only seeing her for literally the meeting on the train platform. But the ultimate ending was always the plan.
Which is exactly why I stopped reading. There's nothing really compelling happening anymore, and the characters themselves just seem to kind of wander through their experiences anymore. Also, Kirkman's fallen into a trap similar to what the show does whereby he stretches out an already pretty thin storyline by…
The problem with that approach is that it tends to lead to a really dogshit show in the middle. In a way, it's actually even worse than NOT knowing your ending, because you have a predetermined ending in mind but no idea how to get there. With a show that doesn't have an ending in mind, you can adapt an ending to…
I read through Compendium 3 and decided I was done. I now only vaguely "follow" the comics by checking in on the wiki now and then to see what's happened. Each time I do, I'm reminded that "Oh, right. I don't actually give a shit."
That depends on the nature of the mission.
A few thoughts re: XCOM2.
"Gimme a steak. Medium rare."
Broke up and she was bisected. So, yeah, there's another relationship terminated. To be fair, I thought their breakup was actually pretty legitimate and well handled. Most of the breakups on his shows are, actually. But it's still irritating that no couple really lasts the length of the show and whatever spinoffs…
I don't disagree that the situation of the characters would suggest that at least SOME of them would die. But Whedon tends to do it a particular way and to particular characters, while others get a pass.
The commentary track on the Serenity Blu-Ray explains it further. Whedon just wanted to hit an emotional beat with that moment, and make you think that he was going to kill everyone after that. But the thing is, I saw that film prior to having watched his other stuff, and it made me certain that each subsequent "Oh…
Possibly controversial opinion:
Oh god…the accent…
Fantastic theory, and well worth the read!
Compelling? Yes. Lasting? No.
Really? I thought Season 6 was the worst, personally, but mostly because it's just so fucking unrelentingly depressing.
