Defend it from an incredibly devastating, poorly thought out war? Yes, the South did start it and bears the entirety of the blame. That's obvious. The man was against secession, but it was happening with or without him. The guy said "Mr. Blair, I look upon secession as anarchy. If I owned the four millions of slaves

The treason was happening with or without Lee. Lee didn't have "prevent the Civil War, abolish slavery" as an option in his hand. He just had "let the Civil War happen without me" and "defend the place I live".

Sure, Virginia is definitely to blame for trying to secede over slavery. But my point is that they were doing that with or without Lee.

Sure, the government forcing it to do so by fighting a war. It's not like Lee could go "well, Virginia gives up slavery, just don't invade us", the war was happening with or without him.

Arbitrarily changing the races like that for a show like this seems like a terrible, terrible idea. If China made a TV show about a fantasy version of their medieval past, I'd never demand that some of the main characters just be arbitrarily white, it would clash with the show.

So you can't make a show about how evil a group is if that group has fans? I don't see the logic there.

Racism never ended, but slavery did. While things today are obviously still flawed, they're leaps and bounds better than they were at the time, it's enough of a difference to be worth looking at.

So you think the show won't have a heavy race-based element? Really?

So you don't think it's safe to assume the creators of the show are against slavery?

So "not knowing how to deliver a baby" makes you a fool? Because that sounds like it describes 90-something% of the population.

Without Birth of a Nation the history of film would likely be fairly different, and it's not like it's actively harming many people right now.

He's not saying it can't be done, just that it's weird to not mention them.

Oh no, the show set in a world based on medieval Europe has relatively few black people in it. The horror. And the people of Essos are pretty racially distinct from the Westerosi, as are the Dornish from the rest of the seven kingdoms, so it's not like there's no diversity, just not many black people.

There's a world of difference between "saying something insensitive about racial issues' and "being pro-confederacy".

So, should they just try to avoid showing the skin tone of the people of Meereen whenever Dany is doing her queen bit?

So people being racist and weird about the south means it's the wrong time to make a show about the south and racism? That doesn't make any sense. Since when is relevance a bad thing?

While their motives were worse without a doubt, it's a bit weird to criticize them for turning against their country while praising Washington and Jefferson for basically doing the same thing. And didn't Lee fight for the Confederacy mostly just because he was from there and not so much because he was so dead set on

Even if it was cheap, "tearing down statues" is still pretty clearly a crime.

There were way too many slave-holding founders for me to think they were opposed to racism.

So you call me a liar, and then when I ask what specifically I'm lying about you say I'm a troll? I guess it's impossible someone could just actually disagree with you. No, asking you to clarify your criticism is clearly the action of some insincere troll.
