While I do agree that it's a clearly racist episode description, "how nice the country is to live in" doesn't necessarily correlate directly to "how racist are the people". I'd move to a pretty racist country if they had UBI and good health care.

Seems like a weirdly racist episode summary header.

The AV club is a not-sandwich publication? There goes all my respect for it. I mean, what else are you going to tell me isn't a sandwich? Half of all subs? A philly cheesesteak? Come on.

In a sense, but I doubt she knew he existed for long.

He sarcastically asks what they did to deserve it, then essentially says both that they deserve it and that they can go fuck themselves. It's very clearly blaming the victims rather than the hecklers.

Between this and Kimmy Schmidt, that's two Tina Fey shows making jokes about Dean Cain's career in about a week.

If the effects are doing a bad job, it should be pointed out. It's not like Lynch has a history of really half-assing his visuals. When it comes to practical effects and makeup, his history is strong- Elephant Man, Eraserhead, even Dune for all its faults mostly looked fantastic. Or even in the new episode, as weird

Especially since the show's joke hinged on Richard not taking him seriously as a result. Somehow, I don't think the show wants to do "Richard doesn't respect this guy as a coder because he's black".

"He’s found a unicorn, someone who wants to spend time with him, supports the terrible job he’s stuck in, and likes him as he is"- and whose habit for reckless, pointless crimes leaves him in constant terror. So, like a unicorn that just stabs everyone.

Is "thread about fictional characters' views on gender politics" really the wrong place to comment on the gender politics of the Amazons? And while "Feminazi" is generally an absurd term because feminist policies don't even slightly resemble those of the Nazis, on an island where men are imprisoned or killed on the

Regardless of whether or not you think it does in the real world, it without a doubt exists in Wonder Woman's homeland.

I mean, Themyscira has a policy of "men are strictly forbidden from our island, under penalty of imprisonment or death" a good chunk of the time, so Wonder Woman does tend to at least have close ties to misandrists.

That said, Themyscira itself is traditionally absurdly sexist.

Honestly, I'm not convinced Chuck was being sexist. Sure, he's a condescending dick, but I don't think he'd treat the male version of Portia with any more respect.

"Game of Thrones is pretty bad"- is it? Essos doesn't really match any stereotypes I'm aware of, it's pretty broad. And the Summer Islands are barely elaborated on.

What in his comment is racist? He's using sarcasm to disagree with the emphasis on representation, but nothing about that suggests he thinks black people are inferior or anything like that.

"First, that would not account for the clearly racialized lines of "uncivilized" v "saviors" presented in the ridiculously recent Game of Thrones adaptation (or the books themselves)"- but Essos isn't uncivilized, as a whole. If anything, large chunks of Essos are more developed than Westeros is. Some parts have some

Dune is fairly diverse, while LOTR is about as diverse as you'd expect a series set entirely in what is more or less ancient England to be.

"and we don't flip out if someone steals our favorite jewel"- really? I know if someone started stealing my jewelry I'd get pretty peeved.
