The event in question was actually at a panel at NYCC for "The Heart, She Holler", which had Cross and Schaal on it, so I wouldn't be super surprised if they're both jerks. I guess the main difference is that Cross is rarely tasked with playing a nice person.

I think there's some legal issue with them just doing a full blown FD/Archer crossover, and also Adam Reed not wanting to dwell too much on the past. So they can get little characters like Simone and Mr Ford and even (a) Captain Murphy, but nobody crazy like Xander or Killface.

I stopped watching Archer seasons ago. I think Frisky Dingo is the better show. Had less room to fail.
