That's what bothered me the most. The writing is just bad. The plot and characters are all undynamic YA stereotypes, and the dialogue is excruciating.

Kids today, not knowing what Snatch is…
A Chipotle burrito is already too much food. If you exploit the poor employees to make it even better you are not only a jerk, but disgusting. Stop eating so much.
Amen, brother.
Yeah, this tracks with my experience of It's Academic (the quiz bowl format used in the DMV). There were a few of the very best high schools (the national contenders) that were less fun, but even they had members of their teams who were able to look at their ridiculous teammates and shrug and laugh.
I got OK at ladder-level Starcraft for a bit. I was never a threat to win anything real, but I could beat dudes sometimes. The amount of micro required, while also pumping out new units, expansions, and otherwise managing your economy, is staggering. I used to watch replays of guys playing and it just blew me away.
I have a similar story to yours, though I was never as good. I really enjoyed collecting as a kid, then about five years ago I lived with a roommate who was also into the game. We got into buying cards online to constantly re-outfit our decks, seeing who could beat the other. Once I moved away from him, though, I fell…
I loved this album when I was in college. Still do, in fact. Great band.
Yeah. That's why it makes no damn sense. Terrible book.
Your experience was the same as mine. Lots of recs from people who liked it, but I hated it.
Then later read a summary of a cruddy Matthew Broderick movie!
That's probably true - isn't it a YA book? I found it to be incredibly juvenile.
I think Mad Max: Fury Road.
I would hardly call Kitchener, one of the most active and longest-serving commanders of Britain's many colonial wars, forgotten by history.
Yeah. It was pretty common for Hollywood stars, particularly men, in the 'Golden Age' of the 30s and 40s to supply their own wardrobes. It's just funny in a historical piece.
The clothes from Legends of the Fall, especially Brad Pitt's wardrobe, seem like they came straight out of an early 90s Ralph Lauren catalogue. That was still 20 years ago, but the magic's still there.
I'm enjoying a Civ5 player named PrimeValCiv's 43 civ true earth map playthrough right now.
The Shawshank Redemption. People won't stop talking about it.
It's a beautiful and occasionally powerful movie. It's also completely vile.
I would gladly let America call me much more annoying things than 'adorkable' for the millions of dollars she makes to be on a cruddy sitcom.
