It took way too many clicks of "load more comments" to find Kanye here. Perhaps that's because I to refuse to call him a genius. An idiot savant? Maybe. I always found people's assertions that "he produces everything himself" (he doesn't) much akin to how TSwift fans never fail to tell you "she writes everything…
Ha! Fortunately for me I was in college in the early 2000's - so maybe not quite as ubiquitous? But if someone had bought it on DVD it might have implied more than they if left for college and snagged their mom's VHS copy.
Liv Tyler was sort of an enigma to my teenage self. There's That Thing You Do where she's the antithesis to the manic pixie dream girl (that's to say just a generally sweet and likable lady), Stealing Beauty where she's naked, and then it's like that Aerosmith video is there to just sorta split the difference.
Okay, but I still think Cruel Intentions is a pretty fun movie (pretty great late 90's soundtrack too) - granted it's been many years since I've actually seen it.
I felt similarly about Waiting in the sense of it feeling like it was written by someone who'd never actually worked in a restaurant. I mean yes there's drugs and booze and everyone generally sleeps with everyone, but the parts where they're waiting tables seemed about as realistic as the employees of Empire Records…
Eh, I think I was 14 when I saw it for the first time and I didn't love or hate it. I dug the music and the general idea but it fell like it belonged on HBO right after Airheads finished or something. High Fidelity on the other hand…
I have this soundtrack on vinyl and even the hype sticker on the record doesn't draw as much attention to the soundtrack as the VHS copy does.
Yeah, I can compound it by referencing the other movies pointed out here (High Fidelity, Dazed and Confused, Almost Famous…) and if someone likes this more than any of those they're most likely not gonna have as much in common with me.
