This show has done a lot wrong over the years, but the one thing they did right was steal BSG's "never a good option" and constant struggle to survive. Nah, just watched the scene again. Gus was still at least 5 feet away. The drop off guy would of had to kick something out into the open. Gus probably usually goes over and sweeps under his table if he wants to make the pick up, but Jimmy was way to obvious in watching the drop off guy.
