interesting point - how UK and US audiences might see the characters thru class lenses, etc differently

they all had commercial success (defined as albums sold) that would be the envy of anyone not named Adele today: Warrant had 2 double-platinum albums, AD's 1 hit album was 4xplatinum, and the Spin Doctors over 5X platinum. Different times.

that's a true story. I hung out with Jani one night in 1994, after a show (required; I worked for the label). He spent the whole night drunk and blaming how their success was instantly steamrolled by Nirvana and the Seattle scene.

$2MM production budget. $60MM domestic theatrical gross, plus millions more in home video. that's a great return on investment, regardless of genre, etc.

agreed; saw it 2 weeks ago. It's sold out thru Sept 2016. Felt wierd hearing an all-minority cast singing about immigrants to NYC's 1%, but it's truly unbelieveable.

Here's one: When I was in the music biz in the late 90's, NARM (an annual music biz convention; look it up, kids!) was in San Francisco, and Tower had several major label artist showcases. late afternoon, performing on a stage the size of pool table, was *NSYNC. nobody was paying attention - EVERYBODY was watching

There was never a Tower in Union Sq. You're thinking of Virgin Megastore, which was immense.. The closest Tower was 4th and Broadway.

I like to imagine they recorded this song live, in one take. The best session players Hollywood had to offer, in a giant soundstage with the brass, string section, disco rhythm section, and giant synthesizer, etc.

As a kid, I went to the theater to see TANK. Horrible, except for James Garner and the Sherman tank.

*looks down, mumbles*
how's this - believe it or not, the theme song was a pop smash, peaking at #2 on the Top 40 charts.

Composer Mike Post wrote practically EVERY great theme song in the 80s: Law & Order, The A-Team, NYPD Blue, The Rockford Files, L.A. Law, Quantum Leap, Magnum, P.I., and Hill Street Blues. Plus - GREATEST AMERICAN HERO

yep. at this day and age, I can't conceive this was aired on network TV edited as it was in the early 80s

Yes. Campfire scene in fart-free silence

I saw this on Broadway in 2001 during previews before it officially opened, and nobody knew what to expect.. Bought the tix for my wife and I based on my fondness for the movie. People were literally rolling in the aisles, gasping for breath; I've never seen anything like it.

Me too! I saw it on ABC Sunday Night at the movies. Only the curses edited out tho - shocking today.

I remember in the early 80's (yes I'm old) watching Blazing Saddles on the ABC Sunday Night Movie. Only the curses were edited out - not the racist slang tho. MUCH different times

that actor grew up to be Carson, the butler on Downton Abbey!

I think Macca was creatively re-invigorated in the late 80's when he collaborated w/ Elvis Costello. "Veronica" is a high-water mark for both.

Bass line lifted from Hall & Oates "I Can't Go For That". That's right!

Jim Peterik is one of the nicest guys around. Plus, he's written hits for a ton of people (38 special, Cheap trick, sammy hagar, REO Speedwagon, Beach Boys, etc). Plus "Vehicle" so there's that.
