I meant the TV series. I still have the books somewhere.

This is interesting. Seeing different perspectives on it among African Americans. Thanks.

Yeah that looks like an obvious difference.

I don't even listen to rap and I've heard of him. He has a Kit-Kat commercial. That's pretty mainstream. Maybe moreso than having an HBO show.

"(not a very progressive state)"

:At the end of this month, Lena Horne would celebrate her 100th birthday.

I think it would make more sense, then, to do whatever you'd do if a white youth spit on you for no reason. Would you call such a white kid the "n word"? Or even an anti-white racial slur? If not then don't respond with racial slurs here either. (If you would then I don't know. Maybe? But I'm tempted to think it would

I doubt that has much to do with it. Celebrities of various kinds bounce back, at least to some degree. After his odd behavior on "Grey's Anatomy" Isaiah Washington was maybe in the wilderness for a bit, but he's been on The 100 for a few years.

Those things were stupid, but you can recognize good when it comes.

But Bieber et alia are already famous. Maybe it improves their image, makes them look more caring, but it's kind of dark to think that's the only or main reason they did it.

Thinking on it I would agree you're just being really cynical.

It's not really the "turning evil" of those two as I was starting to feel this way before that happened.

As mentioned there is some debate how big his "base" is. I would estimate, using different methods, that it's between 10.2% and 28% of the US voting population.

Gotham I guess. It might be the last one I watch as, unlike others who seem to be starting to like the show, I'm growing a bit weary of it. Everything is dark and twisted all the time, not even in a deep way, and I don't think I need that. Oh well.

I really liked this as a teen. I worry, a bit, that it wouldn't hold up.

Liberal white entertainers are hardly rare. Liberal white talk shows aren't even especially rare.

Some words are kind of specific to a community. Reba McEntire can sing a line like "I may have been born just plain white trash" in a cover song but actually I could, personally, see a case that a black person could or perhaps even should feel a bit awkward singing that part of "Fancy." (If there was a TV exchange

I think there is some truth there as Maher does also annoy people, even here, for other reasons. (The Islam thing, "see the gun in his pants" on Obama, Milo, history of statements with regard to women, vaccines, etc.)

I suppose, in fairness, "everything a Republican says on anything, even the weather, is racist or sexist" is fairly standard. (Also "Republicans are all Neo-Confederate regardless of state." Granted that Iowa guy, King, gives some support for that.)

Having an opinion is fine. Telling a black person to "fuck off" or that they aren't as nuanced as you, on an issue related to black people, is maybe understandably bothersome. (Granted there might be times where a white person can talk down to a black person, but I think it's difficult and this is likely not one of
