no question, elongated meta-carpals.

great points (though I still can't bring myself to applaud her note about the female character because I suspect, no matter what the movie, she's going to have notes about the female characters . . .)
Bottom line is, who do you want to work with on your next movie, the person who is competent and gets along with…
No question, this season got so much buzz thanks to Damon/Effie and then Jason/Effie, I'm sure HBO is ecstatic. Buzz matters so much more to them than ratings. The quality of the film itself so doesn't matter, & I'll bet they sell the docu-series around the world.
Yeah, that scene was so real. I thought Jason was trying to politely say "I hear you but that's so on the nose, it sucks" and Len was having none of that. It's not often you get verite scenes that full of, well, truth.
It is a common practice, but here I think it's indicative of what plagued their relationship the whole while. Geez, he's the one who won the contest and then got to direct his own script. But no need to re-litigate all that, I'm sure we agree.
You are correct, sir.
Will you acknowledge that her communication skills . . . need work?
Yeah, if we're looking for someone to blame, how about the co-writer? No takers, just because he seems like a sterling fellow? Kinda was his job, as the fresh eyes professional brought in to flesh out what Jason couldn't see.
Just don't see where there's evidence of gender bias. He's a stubborn guy. Wanted the opportunity to hoist himself by his own creative petard, and did.
Absolutely.
Yeah. Maybe the film sucks — most films do — but they did a good job of showing the pain of putting it to bed. Also, for all the Jason-haters, notice that when it's time to be creative in how to solve the flagging character arc, everyone gets precious about their ideas, not just Jason. Being creative is hard, and it's…
Yeah, I actually knew you were addressing her, I was just sticking my nose in because Cathy & I had exchanged quite a few comments over the week and I thought her heart was in the right place and I instinctively took her side when she was under attack.
So, are you advocating to limit this discussion to professionals in show business? I like this board because it seems to be very diverse, friendly, full of people interested in discussing things, not attacking each other. You should consider embracing some of those values, methinks.
Ouch.
If the movie does suck, and if the movies from past seasons pretty much all sucked (haven't seen them but have heard), it's almost as if winning a contest to direct a feature film isn't the best way to create a great movie. Go figure!
Brilliant point. Unconscionable. Worse than going over (within reason) is coming in under that much.
My heart bleeds for the lucky devil who goes from a 2-3 mill indie to 150 mill summer movie. Sort of like going from flying a cesna to the space shuttle, without intermediate training. With all the hundreds of support crew looking at you like you're an idiot. While knowing that you are, relatively speaking.
I really should stop reading this comment thread, it's just a TV show, it doesn't matter . . . but am unhealthily and compulsively driven to observe, "complete disregard for how much things cost" is just silly. He came in on or under budget. He stopped shooting, without complaint, before incurring overtime. He stopped…
I believe it's all about the "hire people you know" phenomenon, not racisim or sexism per se. Obviously, one reason this set was so diverse was because Effie knew a lot of black people. Which is great. Those people now know the white people they met there, and future productions will slowly become more diverse. Part…
As Ben Affleck said in the last episode, directing is a lonely job, and a little bit of moral support is super helpful in keeping your mojo together in the face of constant self-doubt. It's a marathon mind-game and easy to lose your way. Farrelly was there for that kind of moral support and advice.
