Heartbreaking yet satisfying end to an excellent series.

I don't think Ragnar intended to battle at all. He only went running to the battle to get Bjorn off the ladder.
Once he was there, he couldn't take Bjorn and insist that they leave. That would've been dishonorable. But I don't think he would've fought had he not been concerned for Bjorn.

I've seen Timothy credited as a Producer this season.

Yeah, he insisted on creating a mouring scene for Gyda, remember that beautiful scene? And also the one we saw for mourning Athelstan. Scary to think neither of those monologues were in the script until Travis asked for them.
Also random stuff like the rat roasting, raw fish eating, and the drunken bow & arrow game

I too remember that clunky phrase from the law-giver. I thought that word choice from Michael Hirst "was interesting and unexpected". Same with the word "agenda". I'm surprised Travis didn't suggest a rewrite. I've heard he makes a sea of notes on every script, to the point Hirst takes meetings with him after each

Then Ragnar better hope no one finds out about the old man he strangled in secret.

My heart breaks for Floki too, but not the Helga part. How many times has that situation been in reverse. Floki stomping off leaving poor Helga alone and confused. I say good for her, she's been too tolerant of his BS and Floki had this coming.

Because Ragnar heard treasure and beautiful women. His mind was made up.

Indeed. And for those frustrated by Ragnar's silent all-knowing strategy— what else was he supposed to do? Convince 900 Vikings NOT to battle? Because the village Christian and the Seer told him to think outside the box? Would never happen. He had to let them run the usual program first.

I didn't mind the "all-knowing" from Ragnar because the Seer told him four episodes ago that "The dead will conquer Paris" —not elaborate contraptions, or their most creative battle strategies.

I think they are skipping 3rd wife because he was married to Aslaug when he dies, according to the sagas. Aslaug even played a big role toward the end of his life by predicting the snake pit and even fashioned a protective vest to help him. So he may not be in love with her, and will cheat on her all over the place,

I think Ragnar's softer side died with Gyda, never to be seen again.
After Kwen's heart to heart about her past sexual abuse, I thought that would knock any taste out of his mouth, but not so. He'll take it however from whomever, I guess.
I think Kwen is smarter than I first thought, and I think she could tell Ragnar

I agree with everything you wrote.
I didn't expect the writer to have Ragnar making sons with the comic-reilef.
i love Kwen as a character, she is absolutely hysterical. But I think she's going to use that kid to manipulate Ragnar, and there's no way to tell it's actually his. It could be (and probably is) Guard #5's

It is my ongoing gripe that tragedies happen but we don't get to see any emotional fall out. People just move and never look back.
The goodbye scenes from Ragnar over Gyda and Athelstan were both insisted on by Travis Fimmel (Ragnar). Neither scene existed in the script. Imagine that.

Torvi (Jarl Borg's widow) referred to herself as a Viking last week.

Is it me or is the show suddenly having characters use the word 'Viking' to describe themselves? First Torvi's "I'm Viking" and now Porunn's "Raise her to be Viking". It didn't occur to me that they themselves acknowledged the existence of that term.

The writer has made a real effort to soften her image from S1/early S2. But by then I was already done in.
Her arrival, her entitled attitude, the whining…then juxtaposed with Lagertha getting beaten and raped was too much for me. No fault of the actress (who I think does a beautiful job with what she's given,

I was right with you until "Aslaug is amazing". She is amazingly boring, and I screamed at my TV when we were interrupted from Paris for a scene with her. Either turn into a bad ass witch or go away. The character does not deserve the amount of screen time is given.

Yeah, Kalf isn't apart of history so I don't think he will succeed in getting Ragnar's throne. But he could be the nagging problem Ragnar faces in between raids.
