One thing that I, as an avid reader of the comic books, always found irksome about this show is how extremely watered down Scrooge's characterization is. He's way too friendly, generous and openly sentimental when he's supposed to be a miser and a hard-ass. One with a good heart, certainly, but he'd rather not show

The picture above is not a screenshot. Looks like from a coloring book?

While Hartman was always credited as a guest star, he was more of a part of the recurring cast.

That show underwent a major retool between seasons too. Anyone remember? Her father and brothers disappeared without mention, she went to work at a hospital, her girlfriends got bigger roles, it became more Friends-like.

I won't defend the inclusion of Maila Nurimi, but what I don't see how Eartha Kitt being left off a tribute at the Oscars (as opposed to the Grammys, or even the Emmys) is so scandalous.

What's Sandy Duncan doing these days?

Sheldon trying to be polite with Amy and him rather lying than hurting her seemed pretty considerate for his standards. I missed a few episodes, but compared to the season opener where he was his usual completely uncaring self (You can't leave, you're my ride) and needed to be told why his unacceptable behavior was

" gaming the system by nominating a lead performance as supporting is a classic Oscar tactic"

She was probably scared Dustin Diamond would follow.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I would now like to introduce a most special
American. Tonight, he is being honoured for his 1000th drug-dealer
    killed."
"Thank you. But, in all honesty, the last three I backed over with my car. Luckily, they turned out to be drug-dealers."

    You're off the case, McGarnagle!

I did think about him, but I think it counts when you consider that Letters and Flags weren't supposed to come out in the same year and the former's release date was pushed forward when it became apparent that the latter wasn't going to go anywhere in that year's awards race.

It's actually the rule! The only director in the last 25 years who was able to follow up his Best Director-winning film with another Best Director-nominated film was… James Cameron, and there was over a decade between the two films in his case. This year Tom Hooper and assumed lock Kathryn Bigleow were the latest

I like South Park, but I can't think of the last time they did some truly clever or insightful poltical satire. It's usually "both sides are stupid, but being on the left also kinda makes you a pussy". Is there really anyone who doesn't prefer the character-based stuff by miles?

    That's why it's called Bus*.

" b) unlike most of the previous actor/directors they've honored, he's young, and he isn't seen as a particularly good actor"

It's a bit of a free for all, but Tommy Lee Jones won the SAG, which is the strongest indicator, especially in unsettled races. None of them would be totally shocking though, not even Arkin for his nothing performance since Argo is looking so strong and some voters might look to award it in major categories but don't

The DMD - Argo comparison is problematic if you consider that Bruce Beresford wasn't really a snub in his year. He didn't get nominated for the Globe or the DGA, and the film still had all the momentum without him. Argo without Affleck should point to the film being weaker than it seems, but since it's sweeping anyway

The "Poor Michelle" meme is pretty funny.
