As someone who owns every Punisher book ever (there's more than you think!), there's a lot of dross before you get to Ennis, though Mike Barron did some amazing "ripped-from-the-headlines" stories in the 80's and 90's. It's been a thing for the past 2 years or so, with artists reimagining characters as other heroes; they did it with Venomized characters a few months ago, and just started a Mary Jane based one this past month. It's like a cosplay idea machine, writ large.

I wish the regular art was better on this book. Losing Dillon so suddenly was a massive blow, and Matt Horak is usually a tighter penciler than he is on Punisher, but his art the past few issues has looked really rushed and sketchy. It'd be great to see Anka as a regular on the series.
