I've always wanted to see Robert Altman's Popeye performed as a stage musical. There were (at least) two songs removed by the hacks at Paramount. Add them back in, then plug the remaining holes with a few select Nilsson tracks.

I'm not sure anyone would want to lay The Miz.

My wife and I went to the new Half Price Books last Saturday. I ended up with Hendrix-produced "The Street Giveth… And The Street Taketh Away" by Cat Mother and the All Night Newsboys" and "Tapestry" by Don Mclean. (The latter contains "Castles in the Air," one of my all time favorites.) It's a minor miracle that I

A few days after Christmas 2001, my brother and I found ourselves randomly watching MTV. It ended up being an unannounced special about the year that would be 2002. Some of the bands made it (OK Go, Vanessa Carlton to a degree), some didn't (Remy Shand) and some were just odd/unfortunate (…And You Know Us By the Trail

A handful of years ago, my wife and I decided to "spice up" 9 (the animated film) with our own soundtrack. Our (somewhat dated) results:

Playing catch up with The Middle is an exercise in terror. (My wife and I are missed seasons two through four.) It isn't available for streaming, the DVDs are hard to find and no one is torrenting it. We're stuck with recording the syndicated episodes that air at one in the morning. Oh… And guess what? They made the

I'm not the biggest Journey fan, but the acapella break in "Ask the Lonely" - track 7 on Greatest Hits - is a thing of beauty.

Back in the mid-70s, singer-songwriter Ross Ryan had a hit in Australia with a song called "I Am Pegasus." It's everything you'd expect from an indulgent folk song. (Sample lyric: "I am Pegasus/My name means 'horse'.") Well my wife unironically loves this track, partially due to Tina. "This has to be her favorite

"Weather With You" is an absolute favorite. It's one of those songs I will never get tired of, no matter how many times I hear it. Hell, even the Jimmy Buffett version is good.

Speaking of great movie music, The Man from Hong Kong features one of my absolute favorite themes: "Sky High" by Jigsaw. It was a wannabe Bond theme, but it totally worked.

Democrats should be rooting for Trump right now. Not only will he lose - and big, if many of the polls are to be believed - the hardcore base will stay at home in ways never seen. (Utah, for example, would be in play. That would be unprecedented.) I can easily see a Democratic clean sweep happening. Cruz, on the other

My wife and I saw Elvis and Nixon Saturday. It was better than I was expecting. Sadly, there were only six people in the theater, us included.

"Purple Rain" makes sense, but the music nerd in me was hoping for "Rain" by Australian classic rock band/noted heroin enthusiasts Dragon. Sing along chorus, sounds great loud, cheesy as hell… Pretty much the perfect 80s driving song.

Not just "Purple Rain" - the coda was taken almost wholesale from "I Reach for the Light" by The Raspberries. Start at 2:37.

My parents saw it in the theaters three times. According to them, it got better every time. My brother considers it one of his favorite films of all time.

Since it was so conveniently mentioned above, did you guys hear about how…

Martin Barre, while not an original member, has been in the band since the 1969. (According to Wikipedia, he took over for Tony Iommi. Never knew that one.)

I've been slowly - very slowly, since most of it is still Vinyl only - getting into Bob Welch-era Fleetwood Mac. Those albums have a wonderfully atmospheric, "best when played on a rainy Saturday afternoon" quality that the other versions of the group sorely lack.

I was curious, so I checked them out on YouTube. They sound a hell of a lot like Split Enz.

One small nitpick: Men Without Hats was not, technically speaking, a one hit wonder. "Pop Goes the World" hit the US Top 20 in February 1988. (Both the song and the album are absolute favorites of mine, so I always feel the need to stick up for them. Same goes with "The Sun Always Shines on TV" by A-ha.)
