I definitely realized by episode 4 or so that there weren't going to be any big twists or bombshells for the rest of the series and settled in for what felt like a widening portrait of a charismatic eccentric. The episodes leading up to the end are really good if approached that way.

The Dead Blondes theme has felt incredibly thin and is really lacking the angles that kept other episodes from following the same rise-fall-death arc that most straight-up biographical episodes suffer from.

I tend to have 5-7 podcasts I keep up with weekly and one that I'm tearing through from episode one (currently My Favorite Murder), which then I add to the weekly fold and usually results in another weekly podcast falling out of favor.

I had high hopes for the second season of Magic Tavern. It seemed like they were going to advance the plot finally, but they just settled into another status quo.

Shout out to Pond, who have a new album coming out on the 5th. They're the rest of Tame Impala that isn't Kevin Parker (Kevin Parker writes and records the albums but they're the band when touring), and they sound like they're one of the 70s psychedelic bands Tame Impala is trying to emulate. I really liked Sunless Sea in theory, but the incredibly slow pacing of your boat combined with the need to redo every quest from the beginning when you die completely tanked my enjoyment of it.

Harmony Harmony Oh oh

I guess I mean I don't like their music but am fond of what massive asses they are towards the music community and even themselves.

It's a great burn, but feels more like a burn for a burn's sake than a legitimate observation.

Plastic Beach still glides ahead for me. This one is good, and it's telling that every review is pretty much a good review with some reservations. I'm not sure how I feel about it as a full album (I was listening last night and thought it felt overlong only to realize I was listening to the Deluxe Edition with bonus

In fifty years they'll be like the Looney Tunes and we won't remember the original thing that brought them to the public eye in the first place and you'll be able to buy baja jackets with them in basketball attire in Tijuana for bargain rates.

Totally. I think the intention is to temper what is otherwise dreary and repetitive work. We were in the customer service arm, and being able to cool off with ping-pong and obscure snacks helped make me feel like less of a wage slave. Sadly, these situations often swing too far the other way and the relentless

I was so angry at that book and everyone who liked it when I finally got around to it and found the "deep, progressive exploration of identity" turned out to be a rote immigrant drama.

Seemed like he didn't talk to any Greek immigrants either.

"Performance based raise" is usually code for "some of you will get 20 cents more an hour. Some will get 25."

I so wish he'd made it to a final draft of that book. Its promise was so much more than what could be delivered. Especially in those later parts where odd supernatural subplots are hinted at.

I…I'm passionate about rubber mats.
