I disagree that this was a different tone for the show. There are countless episodes (generally the ones directed by David Gordon Green, as this one was) that exude the same sort of melancholy and introspection mixed with absurdity and extreme situations.

South Park's 9th season is home to some of the finest episodes in the entire run, none finer than the classic "Best Friends Forever". But seriously, that 9th season is chock full of greatness:

Bee Gees 1st is a classic album. So is Odessa. That is all.

Its pleasant. The melody and chord changes are nice. But the lyric is incredibly flimsy. Its not much of a concept to hang a tune on. This is A LOT better than what I would've expected from a Macca/Ronson collaboration though, so that's something.
