Along with the whole brother/sister thing, HIS ADOPTED DAD AND THE ENTIRE CITY (WHICH INCLUDES IRIS AND HIS BIRTH FATHER) WAS ABOUT TO BE DESTROYED. Instead of that whole scene he could have just run over to the dock and tried to knock out WW.
I think the credits said his name was Rob. Not sure if it was mentioned on the show though.
