Except GJI has been "trolling internet" for five years or so, and there have been rumblings about Classic TV running out of steam since Vanderwerff was running section. There not really cause and effect there.

Were you not watching Republican National Convention last night?
Also worth mentioning that Sulu not really portrayed as straight on original series, except by default. Me not remember him ever having romantic relationship, because no one but Kirk, Spock, and Bones ever had own storyline. Takei may have been playing Sulu as straight, but writing more or less left him as blank slate.
It funny, me only learn about that stereotype later in life, because apart from school friends, only Asian men me were aware of were Sulu and Bruce Lee, who were both badass as hell.

Yeah, during her action hero moment in climax of Ghostbusters, me just thought, "okay, this is moment where she becomes movie star."
"It worked when me met George Peppard last month!"
"George, George Peppard has been dead for years!"
"Well whoever he was, he knew lot about A Team!"
She fought it and won!
It one thing that make original Ghostbusters work — horror movie stuff was legitimately scary. New one had little bit of that too, mostly in cold open.
Me agree they should have done that, but Ramis not one to make that decision. Me would love to compare versions of script for original Ghostbusters — both Aykroyd's trippy, unfilmable mess of first draft; Ramis' earlier draft that had more for Winston to do (and no Bill Murray ad-libs). It interesting to see how…
Yeah, me was pleasantly surprised. She and McKinnon really carried whole thing.
To be honest, one of things that made me happiest about this is that me could easily see two or three more good Ghostbusters movies following this one — something original not give us. In fact, me suspect second one would be better, as it not have to be loaded down with references to original.
Original Ghostbusters was 2:05.
Honestly, this recycle less than Force Awakens. Yes, there were very frequent nods to original, but they tended to be ten-second cameos (apart from Murray's, which was overlong and added nothing). But story not lean so heavily on original — apart from overarching framework of "scientists discover way to trap ghosts…
Trailer had me worried that Jones was going to be that stereotype, but those moments from trailer were really her only "loud black woman" moments. Movie gave her fairly well-rounded character who presented as intelligent, levelheaded, and given more to do than, say, Winston in original.
Me not sure how it issue, since this is movie with zero romantic relationships, beyond Wiig's crush on Hemsworth.
Counterpoints:
There is something special about New York City, which is that city of 12 million people and approximately 12 hundred thousand pizza places have so many better options than Papa John's. Me can understand living in suburbs and having PJs be better choice than Dominos. But even with Ghostbusters HQ in Chinatown there…
It funny how apt Force Awakens comparisons are. And like that movie, me feel like it did some necessary callbacks to get fan base back on board, and set table for potentially great series of movies. Me already looking forward to next Ghostbusters where they not feel need to wedge in cameos and visual references to…
20% of movie? Other than Murray's overlong cameo, everyone other original cast member was in movie for maybe 10 seconds apiece.
