'Brave Little Toaster' overtly references the famous biblical scene in which St. Peter fantasizes about floating toward Jesus exchanging cries of "Master!"—"Blankey". Powerful stuff. And who could forget the time the twelve apostles had that crazy air conditioner that freaked out and started screaming and then

He'll be playing the role of historic San Francisco.

The song from this was stuck in my head today. My wife and I were watching it on Halloween. Medama oyaji is cute.

Thank you! I was just watching gegege no Kitaro with my wife (the 1971 version). It's a really fun show and I thought the same thing when I read that bit.

My poor wife is probably so sick of me imitating Clint Eastwood talking to the chair.

Maybe it's the sleep deprivation but this remark really cracked me up

From a flea market in suburban Wisconsin. Imagine my glee as a stoned teenager upon finding this, only to be filled with crushing disappointment when I found out it was little more than a generic scrolling space shooter. Lured in by the promise of bearded grandpa men, only to be betrayed again. Such is life

Perhaps unrelated but I'm really digging Mario Maker. I can't really think of any game to have come before it that offers such a high level of replayability and open-endedness. And as a player that grew up with these games it's really something like a dream come true to get to design your own levels.

Totally different. My wife loves this show, and I watch it too. It's pretty funny (as was the recent movie), but the humor is really based on everyday Japanese things and pop cultural references, I don't think it's the kind of show that would travel well. Same reason why many people know the Simpsons here as the CC

Also the movie Sister Act. That's really popular here for some reason.

Not a surprise. With some strange exceptions (Ted!?) American comedies aren't very popular here in Japan.

Nostalgia overload! I loved playing tie fighter. We had this cool joystick too. Mission critical craft—hull condition critical, mission critical craft destroyed. And then the imperial officer would come on the radio and be like Tau one I'm very disappointed in you lol

Exactly. It reminds me of something a Japanese friend told me ten years ago when we were playing mgs3. He told me the Japanese voice actors were annoying and he preferred the American voices because they sounded cooler. It's something a lot of fans of anime say about dubbed versions, that they prefer subs or whatever,

I've never played Dragon Quest before, but I recently picked up Dragon Quest V for the snes. I haven't played it yet. Is it any good? Which is the best in the series?

XII was the most recent one I played, and I thought it was one of the best in the series, up there with VI, IV, and VII. I heard that XIII wasn't very good, and the less said about mmorpgs the better. I don't game much anymore, though I recently purchased a bunch of old super famicom games. I have the good fortune to

Well, just through marriage. And I should qualify that statement, because his daughter and I are just recently engaged. He's super nice and one of the most intelligent people I've met. He was even nice enough and patient enough to teach me to ski last winter.

Several things. First, I think Murakami translates well into English because it's written in kind of "English-y" Japanese. Secondly, yes, he's perfectly fluent in English, but like the user above noted, he doesn't write his own translations. He does however translate a lot of famous literature into Japanese (I think

Did he say his name is Zoltan at the end of the video?

My friends and I became obsessed with David Faustino about two years ago. His hit single was definitely in heavy rotation. It's lyrics are so sad "standing tall at five foot three" and "meow meow meow how's that" seem to stand out in my memory.
