This book was awful indeed. I've never heard of adaptation. I'm assuming it's even worse. The book has this vibe of SyFy original movie script, it's not even funny.
I vaguely remember I enjoyed it when I first watched it. But I don't remember specifics of the plot at all.
There's also 1971's movie The Andromeda Strain, based on Michael Crichton's book. I actually watched this one. I've no idea why.
