Late on this, but I was totally right there with you. I love Russell's performance, but I think Elizabeth maybe in Walter White territory for me completely now. She's a compelling character, but so frustratingly stubborn that I really want her to fail, get caught, or die.

And all of season 2 if I recall. Gorgeous stuff, and similar in aesthetic to some of Esmail's look. Soderbergh's use of natural light is especially breathtaking.

I've been listening to the Bombcast for a long ass time at this point, and it remains one of the only game related podcasts I've stuck with. Many game podcasts I've tried tend to take the whole thing a bit too seriously, but the GB crew is closer to my age (30+) so they tend to go into things with a bit more

Love that one too. Aside from Frost's bar stool fists my other favorite bit from that scene is Pegg getting to call back to the Happy Mondays song (Step On) that they're listening to when they arrive in town by parroting back the "twistin' my melon man" line as the most efficient method to kill the blanks. That's some

After my first viewing I'd agree with you. It's got a lot of things in it that temper the comedy, namely the suicidal nature of Pegg's character. But just as with Hot Fuzz (which I also thought initially was good, but not nearly as strong as Shaun), repeat viewings have brought it up my list of Wright's films just

Pretty solid list AV Club! Thrilled to see all of Edgar Wright's films on this list because he's without doubt one of the best directors of the past 15 + years and not just in comedy. He does just as much for the comedy of his films with his amazing direction as his cast and co-writers do.

A great read for sure. I also think Damon and Carlton talk a bit about this on their commentary track for Across the Sea.

Hey the other 3 people who like "Across the Sea"!

The best recall moment for sure. Every time.

Alternatively I think it would have been smart to reveal the nature of the flash sideways as their version of an epilogue early in the season instead of wasting all that time trying to bait the audience with the alternate timeline red haring. We could have enjoyed the what if? scenarios, and spend less time being led

1) Great job guys! Didn't think this would yield nearly as much as Better Call Saul or Fargo. GOT is just too sprawling to stick to one cinematic style, but you guys really pulled out some great stuff every episode.
2) Do Mr. Robot season 2 next. I struggle to think of a show (excluding BCS, and Fargo of course) that

Thanks a bunch for picking these up again and taking it through my favorite arc in the series. I should have participated more I suppose, but only so much pop culture can be fit into a day.

Fair point, it really did jangle the nerves with all the cutting and sound dropping out. I think perhaps at that point I was ready for the knights of the Vale to show up, and just felt like it was stalling a bit too much for me. I'd say the same for Dany's very long setup flight before she inevitably torched all those

Had some issues with a few parts of the battle being over indulgent in length (the trampling bit for one), but very satisfied that Ramsey's cruelty in both slaughtering his own men with archers, and starving his hounds is what lost the battle for him and killed him personally.

For real, I still have trouble believing that whole cast wasn't snatched up immediately after the show. It's especially baffling with Helfer since yeah she's a fucking knockout, but the show also gave her so many variations on 6 to showcase her range it seems like a perfect acting reel. But alas she is Canadian (along

I also really like that he does most of them from his bedroom, smoking, while hanging out with his wife the wardrobe supervisor on the show, who also rules.

God the drums in Prelude to War are amazing, I really cannot think of a show or many movies with a score as good and varied as BSG. It's too bad Bear McCreary hasn't had a show to use his talent on in a while. Let's face it The Walking Dead has a bitching opening theme, but there's not really any score in the show

The first half of season 3 is probably the high point for sure but I really love the mutiny plot from season 4 (or 4.5 whatever it's called) as well as most of episodes leading up to the end when Galactica starts to fall apart physically. Powerful stuff though Adama's sad-painting scene was one of the more

Is season 3 the one with two Crichtons? It's been a long time since I've seen it, but goddamn that was one mind fuck of a season. The culmination of that plot is fantastic.

Indeed, Tricia Helfer got a lot of different 6s to play over the series, but this may be my favorite because it's so against type and is a fairly contained arc since she's gone after the end of this season.
