I was actually watching NotLD today, and the reason that the Rifftrax version is so clunky is that it began pre-Rifftrax as a commentary by just Michael J. Nelson. The Rifftrax version takes those jokes, spreads them out for three people, and adds in a few more, though not much. It's easily one of their weakest.
