You may be right, I was assuming the colonists would be partners and family units (eg Newt's family in Aliens) but that is certainly not explicitly stated.

I can understand why she might need David but putting him back together is not only illogical it brings up the question, how would she even have done that?

The xenomorphs from the first two STILL look scary AF. Why they would go over the top CGI on this makes no sense.

I think it was defensible at least in the sense that if you didn't go with a partner you'd essentially be signing off on spending the rest of your life alone. The movie didn't explain that or give any background, but that was my feel at least.
