I don't know if I'm smug about that period of my life. Unemployment is pretty depressing.

I watched the show through last season and then, learning that the books would no longer spoil the show, read all the books in about a month after the finale to see how they were different and enjoying different aspects of both better than the other. Now I'm confused. Which group of smug individuals do I belong to?
Just out of curiosity, how many AVC commentators have women in their top 100 directors of all time? Because I looked at my flickchart list (while not the final word in my taste, I think it is a useful tool here) and my top 500 films are almost exclusively directed by men.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone walking down the red carpet in drag while tripping on acid because someone made the mistake of nominating the South Park movie for music.
I didn't see them say they have never seen it (granted the Radio Times website kept crashing on me and I'm only going off this article). But saying that it "feels divorced" from their classic film and they are indifferent to it are probably the two most negative things I've ever seen anyone say about the television…
Netflix has been going downhill for years. The streaming options keep getting worse and the dvd delivery is much slower.
Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, Heidegger… Reading, but not really reading German philosophy seems to be a pretty common thing with everyone I know who likes philosophy. Myself sadly included…
Haha. I've yet to read Hegel, but what I've heard about the conservative reading of his political work doesn't resonate with me.
I've always been amused that one of my favorite albums shares a title with one of my most despised works of political philosophy.
This is the album that opened my ears to great metal and an all-time favorite. Mastodon led my love of distorted guitars away from the generic hard rock of bands like Disturbed back in the early naughts into a world of amazing technical playing and songwriting from heavy bands around the world.
That's not far off. Tribute, attending religious festivities and thanking the Roman gods for providing for the society were the important things from what I've read. The Christians and Jews viewed these as violating the "other gods" clause of the 10 commandments, this was completely foreign to Romans who didn't…
I know. Historical inaccuracy often bugs me and this one is already one of the worst I've come across. Anyone who has read about Roman history knows that they were incredibly tolerant of non-Roman religion, but eventually came to despise the Jews and Christians for refusing to also worship the Roman gods, which was…
I saw the trailer for Gods of Egypt before Deadpool and I have to say it was probably the most interesting one. It kind of said "I'm big, dumb fun. Come enjoy the director of the Crow playing with CG toys and goofy Egyptian mythology." I'm OK with that.
Fritz Lang is also a great German expressionist. I love M and Metropolis and Scarlet Street is next up when I'm feeling a film from that era. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll definitely add his Mabuse films to my watch list.
Quote segments and straw men arguments? What fun! How did you know I missed those philosophy papers where we demonstrated logical and rhetorical fallacies by using them?
"The choices aren’t too thrilling this month (fitting, for a Tuesday), but surely nobody will pass up a chance to see Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II, Gattaca, or The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari again."
Shhh! Reasonable pro-gun politics have no place on the internet! We pro-gun people just want everyone running around shooting like Yosemite Sam.
I never called you soulless. That's offensive. My best friend is a ginger, but even without a soul he still enjoys life and doesn't tell people that he gets to decide what is and isn't acceptable behavior in public like he was elected president of propriety.
If I sound like a selfish prick, then you sound like a miserable one who hates fun. If personal hells exist I bet you're going to wind up in a crappy Atlanta theater with your favorite films being talked over for eternity.
Actually the crowd at Deadpool was pretty, well, dead. But that's normal with a white, Midwestern audience. We aren't exactly known for huge outpourings of enthusiasm.
