I 100% agree with this.
I'm not sure if it a valid point, and goodness knows how much a staunch lefty like me despises the rich and powerful. Casey Affleck may very well be guilty, but we should not hold him to a higher standard than common plebs like Yumzux, you, and I (my apologies if I've misrepresented either of you two).
I suspect a lot of filmmakers will not want to work with him, if Brie Larson is any indication of how some people within the community feel, irrespective of his Academy Award win.
Fair enough. I'm actually surprised that the alleged offences don't merit a criminal case, but I live in the UK so I can't speak authoritavely about the relevant jurisdiction.
I didn't pay to see this one. I didn't want to give my money to Casey Affleck, and besides, Moonlight, La La Land, and the (woefully overlooked) Silence appealed to me more (MBTS sounds like it has an interesting story, that would resonate with me, but I heard that it wasn't especially cinematic). I'll no doubt…
I tend to think artistic awards should be given to who makes the best art, irrespective of their personal character and politics. I also tend to hold a public official, who is supposed to represent the interests of all people, including, even especially minorities and historically oppressed and marginalised groups.
NO ONE IS MORE LIBERAL THAN ME! Not Aberle, not Lonergan, not Wesleyan, not The Argus, not AMPAS, and certainly not the damn Affleck bros.
Rightly or wrongly, justice operates on the 'presumption of innocent until proven guilty' in Western democracies.
Sad but most likely true.
Where I come from, you'd be given ten lashings over a bare backside if your report card displayed anything worse than an A-.
Yeah, Uncle Ben is the genius in the family. Not the nephew who invented mechanical web-shooters.
There's a flashback to his childhood, but I believe you're right; the murder of the Waynes isn't depicted in Batman & Robin. Thank goodness. I'd hate to imagine whatever wisecrack Schumacher might have given Joe Chill after he offed Bruce's parents.
Speaking as a person with a psychiatric disorder, I think it's pretty safe to say that Batman has got his own mental health issues. And it depends on the comic or film in question as to whether he's beating up on poor schmoes or fellow plutocrats. Some of his rogues' gallery, particularly the mobsters, but also…
I dread to think what Benedict Cumberbatch's full name must be.
William Hurt and Jeff Bridges, I could understand. Not so much Kurt Russell and Jeff Bridges.
Makes sense, seeing as that franchise is also owned by WB.
Funnily enough, Dennis' dumpy looking brother played Jeff Bridges' love rival in The Last Picture Show.
So, Billy Dee Williams has been cheated from getting to properly play Two-Face, yet again? Damn!
I guess you guys are going to have to put up with a lot more of me from 20 February, I'm afraid.
