I've little opinion on him either way, but the only thing he can do now is lay low and build up goodwill taking supporting roles in decent indie flicks. American Honey was well received on the festival circuit so it seems he's already onto that plan.

I think I'd have preferred a straight-ahead sequel. I generally enjoy Marvel's output, but it straddles the line between serialization and not wanting to scare off the uninitiated too much for my taste, resulting in movies that don't really commit to either approach. Civil War's a perfect example of this: you'd have

Civil War's main problem is that it thought making Bucky the center of attention - again! - was a good idea. Worked in Winter Solider where his identity was a mystery, but not here. He's just… fucking boring.

Damn, Americans only got The Lobster this summer? I feel like I saw that film years ago.

I was just the right age (ie. a teen) for Everything is Illuminated so I bought into it, but I know it'd annoy the shit out of me if I read it now. All else he's done since then sounds like anathema. Perhaps this is what happens when you become too acclaimed too soon, like that James Frey guy.

I'm not sure I'd conflate a love of freedom with patriotism so readily, but then I'm a Brit — so I guess my country's notion of patriotism is a lot more murky than America's. When we get really into the whole 'freedom + patriotism' thing, Brexit happens.

"patriotism is a virtue while nationalism is a form of blindness"

I saw him in London and he must have skipped the bit where he pissed off left-wingers - all I heard were tired Trump and Middle America jokes. I learned a lesson that night: never pay a lot of money to see stand-up just because you enjoyed a character they played.

They need to get rid of Snyder, in so many words. I haven't seen Suicide Squad, but I'm giving Ayer the benefit of the doubt as he clearly made a completely different movie to what ended up in theaters.

I doubt marketing was $200m. $100m is pretty standard for a major blockbuster, and in this case what they had was effective enough to go viral which is why it felt like it was everywhere. Marketing is DC's not-so-secret weapon, no matter how crap its films are.

I think we can all agree there aren't nearly enough comic book movies. I'd like them to ramp up production a little.

I feel like abortion isn't really a big deal on British TV, though I struggle to think of specific examples to support that assumption.

Breaking news, eventually - AV Club.

I don't how much they're following the book, but I'd guess this particular scene was shot especially for the trailer.

I've seen people say this like it's some kind of revelation, but why? The show didn't exactly make the actress' face inconspicuous in either of her scenes.

Good finale to a generally weak season. This was the year the writers finally gave up on sharp dialogue and political intrigue in favor of (occasionally spectacular) fan service.

"Not Leave voter is a xenophobe, but every xenophobe voted Leave."

I'm mildly stunned the writers had the audacity to do the ol' cavalry saving the day at the last minute thing… for a third time by my count. If I did grades, that alone would knock off a whole one.

Tyrion has been a bit of a bore this season. I suppose that's what happens to a character who's totally reliant on great dialogue when the scripts no longer provide it.

That episode was at once both rather dumb and very enjoyable. I've kind of given up on the show having good dialogue anymore, but it can still bring the atmosphere when it counts.
