By comparison, TV shows are much more careful about women, because people have lives built around just pointing out when bad things happen to women on TV.

Because some Japanese-Americans and white people regard it as racist. In Japan itself the casting does not appear to be controversial.

I don't mean to be facetious, but it just boggles my mind that any one could see Timur Bekmambetov's name attached to anything and view it as a plus.

I don't see anything wrong with creating multiple adaptations of a novel. I've had a lot of fun over the years comparing and contrasting different versions of Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, etc.
