This recap ably identifies what went wrong here. Elementary gets points for trying to find the best stories to tell, but falls short in the telling. And, as always if you see identifiable guest stars like Christine Taylor, you know the plot will come back around to her.

Bull Durham. "Do I deserve to wear white?" "Honey, we all deserve to wear white." Wonderful.

I hope it included his eps of Scrubs, because…excellent.

I groaned when Gordon Ramsay showed up, but he was really effective (especially when praising his own cooking)

I liked the way "my aim is true" was used as punctuation in the proposal scene. Sung by uniformed cops. Made me laugh,

Sorry folks, Roseanne did it first, and better.

she was at the birthday parties—she ditched Kate's to attend Kevin's.

I think zotz=a poke or jab

Loved this, but my favorite cover of Birdhouse in Your Soul was in the TV show Pushing Daisies

Its the dynamic of Holmes and Bell working together when Joan's out of the scene…Bell always by the book and Holmes always doing exactly what he wants to do. Bell and Watson don't have that friction…they're buddies with similar viewpoints. Its probably a lot more fun to write Bell and Holmes scenes.

RIP

I don't think we've seen the last of Robbie. After all, he started by dating CeCe, then hooked up with Nadia, before getting together with Jess. I think he'll move on to Reagan when she and Nick inevitably break up. (Or maybe with Taylor Swift's character when she divorces CeCe's ex-finace.)

oh damn

Peter Capaldi stole In the Loop, but Mimi Kennedy and her bleeding gums were IT for me. She's great in everything she does.

I haven't seen the film, but have seen the 1980s series with Carroll O'Connor in the Rod Steiger role. Apparently they went in a different direction, since the sheriff ended up married to the black councilwoman played by Denise Nicolas. How does the TV adaptation compare to the film?

Eleanor's mother is Mary Cherry! How appropriate that the Watch This column featured Popular this week.

I confess to having a crush on Miguel Ferrer. So sad to hear this news.

Gina did tell Boyle that she'd rather be hit by a bus than read one of his tweets. Be careful what you wish for Gina.
