I think the focus on Hillary in this thread is missing the forest for the trees… fact is, "strident" has long been used as coded misogyny, to the point where some folks are understandably suspicious *any* time it's used to describe a woman, even if there's some truth to it in that particular case.

Oh gosh, it was just a joke, and yeah, there's generally good reason(s) for a kid's undeveloped palate, but that was precisely the point I was trying to make - the writer doesn't seem to get that a preference for simple, familiar foods is often just a natural phase for that age range, and for lots of parents it's way
