Based on the first few listens I've had over at NPR, this is a great album, but it's not my favorite of hers. That may change in the future, but right now I miss the songs where she really gets into that folk tradition of telling a story (say, "All My Rage"), and the references to folklore (which I had hoped the

And Sutton Foster, which doesn't even sound like a person's name!

AND he was surprisingly good!

And there was that bit about all the Ph.D. candidates who though Hannibal & Alana were having an affair. So clearly he doesn't read as gay so much as just odd, but in a charming & refined sort of way.

I think Alana is one of Hannibal's favorite people in the world. He respects her as a professional and enjoys her company, and there are so few people he can say that for (Dr. Du Maurier, Will, and…that's it). As someone pointed out last week, she wasn't even *rude* when she admonished him for interfering with

And that was signaled by the stuff with Eddie Izzard!

Well, investigators would never refer to a criminal by just their first name, like they were all friends. And there's another Hobbs still in the picture. They got into the habit of calling him "Garrett Jacob Hobbs," and now it would be weird to stop. (I mean, "Gary"? The only time they ever interacted with the guy was

After the episode last week, I actually dreamed that Bryan Fuller was murdered. This was clearly a combination of my fear of never getting any more episodes and a leftover effect of the particularly violent episode, but man. I don't know what I'm going to do next week.

I was so glad SOMEONE finally gave him a hug. I've never seen anyone who so desperately needs a hug in my life.

Will + Hannibal + Alana is a pretty amazing literal menage a trois (household of three) when it comes to Abigail. There's a weird multi-directional parental dynamic going on there that I'm loving, and I'd like to see Alana integrated more ("I have no qualms about Hannibal" OH DARLING). I can see her role very clearly,

I was going to say: he's not NEARLY as bad as Ellis.

Along with everyone else, I'd like to reiterate how grateful I am for this series of reviews. I hadn't ever really heard about the show before, but I fell in love in that very first scene, and I'm so glad to have been introduced. The reviews have been a joy to read. Todd, your writing is so stunning and so insightful:

Not easily monetized, & no Fifty Shades-level precedent. So probably not.

There's a lot of fanfiction that's BETTER than some of the books published.

This is basically Alloy Entertainment's business model anyway. They're a book packager: they come up with ideas and then hire writers to complete the books. Given that this arrangement is only with them so far, it's a much smaller deal than it sounds.

Calling this "fanfic" is a weird misrepresentation of what's actually going on. It's more like the licensed Star Wars/Star Trek books, only amateur authors are also able to participate. I'm pretty sure Amazon called it that intentionally, though: it definitely draws more attention!

There's plenty of it, actually. But…it's all available for free already.

Their use of the term fanfic is WILDLY misleading, though. Alloy Entertainment is a book packager: they come up with ideas, characters, & plot and hire a writer (or a team of them) to actually write the series. They're basically just expanding that here.
