iiRC there was a show along those lines (even refered to as CSI:Ankh-Morpok) in development a few years ago that apparently went nowhere.

I interpret it as a reference to France getting big blockbusters a few days before the US, due to films being released on wednesdays.
It's what TVTropes calls a character based on an existing character despite being different enough to be called a different character.
Shawn Ryan's working as Executive Producer on this, so consider my interest piqued.
Minear ran Firefly. And Noxon ran Buffy the year before IIRC.
I see they kept the first movie's central theme of hiring vastly overqualified actors.

"Format: Multi-camera comedy"
Enjoyed it a lot.
Wasn't surprised to see Selman worked as showrunner on that one, his episodes tend to be a lot more disciplined than the regular Al Jean ones.
Hopefully he takes on the job on a more regular basis one of these days.
The less serialized approach is basically something Fox tells them to do, and not a deliberate choice from the writers, so it's unlikely to go.
