And there's not a thing wrong with it. Not even the "pseudo" part: it's an action film, not Antonioni. The extentialism should make itself known, then get out of the way of the pulp pleasures. That's what Hill excells at: knowing the right places to shade in his genre works.

To be fair, you're not fucking watching it.

It still wouldn't make my LKL top-5, but I find it to be a more interesting variation of the same story.

I might as well throw out Trespass in this roll call. Possibly his most underrated film in that not even the fans of his '70s-'80s stuff seem to give it the time of day.

Granted, Stallone and Joel Silver should rightfully take the L for that. I'm sure Hill was just happy for the paycheck.

Never cared for it. It strikes me as being way to schematic: all genre-archetype and little meat.

Bruce Lee's films are mediocre as kung-fu films. And 36th Chamber isn't even the best film Lau Kar-Leung made that year.

Post-Noir Pseudo-Existentialism With Great Car Chases

Or similarly, Eckhart Schmidt's Alpha City, which I've always pegged as one of Refn's secret influences: the electro-synth soundtrack; the neon-plastered visuals; the hushed, detached and cool aesthetic; the "romantic hero" who is essentially a violent psychopath.

Terrible concept for a TV series. It could never work.

Justified really should be the model for how to do this: start off with a opener that gets all the pieces on the board; spend the first half of the season on one-and-done procedurals, while subtly setting up a larger arc in the background; spend the second half on that arc, which is usually the perfect amount of time

I'm not so sure of that either. The remake of Hills is certainly closer to the survival-against-cannibal film I wanted the original to be, but I will say the original lives and dies on the theatrical experience: if you get a chance to see it with a receptive audience in a beat-up print, see it. I'm surprised how

It's watchable, but despite casting much-more polished actors (and probably because of it) I could care less about all the characters and the contrived, melodramatic scenarios Snyder/Gunn (and let's be honest, it's clear with hindsight that the latter is who propped up the film) cook up for them.

Boipussy Galore

And so the $20 Sack Pyramid inches ever closer to reality.

Warcraft: or The worst thing to happen to Duncan Jones this year.

Columbo use to do just that, and was wildly popular.

Upvoted for "My Time" reference. What a strangely captivating song.

How much Rastaman?

All great songs. The title track and "Well and the Lighthouse" are certainly 'minor', but they provide some much needed levity and lightness in the album as a whole. And the synths on "…Lighthouse" are gorgeous!
