This video is basically 100% right. To what extent should we purposefully try to avoid tropes like this when creating things though? Doesn't it stifle the process a bit to consider the politics of what you're writing?

I think there are a lot of white people who feel personally attacked by the intense social pressure not to do or say anything that could be interpreted as racist. As a result, they leap on any opportunity to complain about someone being racist towards them.
