Re-reading the Vulture article on him. I gotta empathize with his frustration but yeah, unfortunately there comes a point where such a huge shift of perspective being introduced needs to be softened greatly for the general viewing audience. True but I can't imagine what kind of pressure or whatever they must've faced for a first season show AND the first one to star an Asian American family in 20 years. I still would've liked to see how Huang's input, however limited, would've guided things.

It definitely feels like we've lost that extra something with Huang's departure. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy this show but I think it's part in the fact that I've settled for less. Some people might not take to Huang's personality but I really appreciated his perspective and enthusiasm.

I like this show and all but I agree. While any first season may be uneven, I was hoping we would get into more of that lived perspective that is so rare in tv these days. I remember reading Jezebel's weekly fangirling over Girls and then finally deciding to cover this far superior show once it was announced that it got cancelled. Classic Jez.
