All too easy. But I literally laughed out loud.
It does sometimes seem that way. I think the intent is to have the dialogue be as straightforward, plain, and free from idioms as possible, so it kind of sounds like it might be just directly translated into modern speech from some original Scandinavian source. It doesn't always work, and the word "boyfriend"…
It's a more realistic depiction of a spoiled teenage version of grief, but it's kind of boring, especially compared to Arya's roaring rampage of revenge. And if there's one thing that doesn't play well on TV, it's boring.

Or Liv Tyler playing a doctor. (Incredible Hulk.) It's just … no. But, she did fulfill her rule of being a daughter whose father doesn't like her love interest (see Armageddon, LOTR, probably others).
Don't particular care for Williams' comedy, but I'll get on board with disliking anything involving Sandler.
Haha! I hail from Wisconsin, and so also thought of the Governor first when I saw that name.
Seconded on Carruth. "Primer" is endlessly fascinating. "Upstream Color" is endlessly gorgeous.
