Thousand-island is essentially mayo mixed with ketchup — two pretty common condiments for burgers.
Well I mean to tell you your job Marah. I mean to tell you your job very much.
My favorite band of all time. A perfect mix of guitars and keyboards, a perfect mix of happy and sad.
Halo was on regular rotation in Los Angeles on the local "alternative rock" station back in 1992. It was as popular as High, Friday I'm in Love, and A Letter to Elise.
Who am I kidding — I should just stick these forever stamps right on my thighs.
Passengers was great, but I definitely don't see it as a follow-up to Zooropa. It doesn't really feel connected to any U2 album. There's a good reason they didn't release it under the U2 moniker — it really is equal parts Brian Eno and U2. It's more background/ambient music than pop.
I remember watching the Sydney video when it first came out and being jealous as fuck that I missed that spectacle. Watching it nowadays, it's a little bit underwhelming and dated, but it still has to be one of the most creative stage setups a world-famous rock band has had.
I never liked Numb, but I'm listening to it now and I think I'd really like it if it were an instrumental.
poison, poison, TASTY FISH!
It's an April Fools joke. "On this first day of April, this is NPR News."
Hey, baldy's the most technically proficient guitarist the band's ever had. And he helped designed most of the album and single artwork through the Wish era.
Hrrm. Maybe that was in response to the advent of religious violence in the north?
This must've been in the '70s then? Most students from the developing world studying in the U.S. are part of the political or ruling class (and this student almost certainly was given her preference for military rule). I'm sure part of the reason for his measured language was to protect himself and his family.…
The AV Undercover recording of Shearwater/Sharon Van Etten doing "Stop Draggin My Hearrt Around" on 7-inch… Why wasn't this mentioned in the article? Didn't you guys know about this?
I'm really digging the chorus in this version of These Things Take Time (19:30). Straightforward bassline and 4/4 drums. It sounds a lot better than the version they ended up officially releasing.
Not a superfan, but "England" by far. As for favorite album (and artwork), it's Boxer.
It's possible that the record companies led to their own downfall with their scouting budgets. But remember that, in the States at least, fans that really dug a song were obliged to drop 16-20 dollars on an album to get access to a song (or at least ten bucks to get a copy of the import single*). So that's six or…
@avclub-71a04561e43c4ba6db6663c142598f96:disqus Not at all. Monster's great because: 1) it proved that REM could pull off a loud guitar record better than most of the bands of that era; 2) it kept Bill Berry in the band because he was sick of playing bass and wanted a real rock record to actually play drums on; and…
Really looking forward to the Zooropa article. It's amazing how creative U2 used to be.
