That's actually a really interesting take on Wash's death, Zack.  I don't agree, mostly for the reasons K. Thrace notes below - his death, like Book's, attaches a price to Mal's actions and his decisions, which is really important for the movie and as a thematic tie-in to the entire show - but I respect your passion

Great job, guys, thanks so much for the discussions and thoughtful insights and commentary. It's been the highlight of my week, and I'll miss it.  I'm one of those who really loves the movie, both as a cap to the series and as a great piece of stand-alone science fiction movie storytelling.  So, so many great, cool

Here's why this comment infuriates me.  Because it implies that you can make a list, call it "The Best Films of the '90s," leave off a group of films that you god damn well know your readers are going to, at a minimum, question why you left off, then not only not address ANYWHERE why it might be that no one included

Mike D'Angelo's comment about the various omissions people, myself included, are all pissed off about really infuriates me.  Because it implies that you can make a list, call it "The Best Films of the '90s," leave off a group of films that you god damn well know your readers are going to, at a minimum, question why

I'll admit that, IMO, out of the three movies I listed, TUS is the weakest, and the least "important."  Patstar_deluxe basically sums up what my arguments in favor of including it, if not in the Top 50, at least in the "also-rans" section.  I guess I'd just add that the score is absolutely brilliant, it's a murderer's

Ahem.  Please let me know when someone posts the well-reasoned, respectful explanations of why Heat, The Usual Suspects, and Silence of the Lambs did not make the list, which of course I am confident must be forthcoming, since for years I have been under the impression that this website is authored by thoughtful,

I'm absolutely positive I'm going to regret this, but I just can't resist.  Are you seriously saying that Heat sucks?  I mean, I can see that perhaps crime movies or heist movies or whatever genre you'd put the movie in are not your cup of tea, or you have a deep-seated hatred of Pacino or DeNiro or something, but are

That's EXACTLY what I thought when I read this list.  GET OUT OF MY HEAD, MRS. RICHARD F SCHILLER!

I'm picking out a thermos for yooooouuu
Not an ordinary thermos for yoooouuuu
But the very best thermos that money can buy,
With vinyl, and pinstripes, and a cup built right in!

My brain is oozing out of my ears right now at the amazing-ness of that fact.  ToddG, you are doing God's work.
