Saw Patton's set at the Vic, and I gotta say I found it very disappointing.  I'm a big fan of his - isn't that a requirement for everyone around here? - but I didn't appreciate paying $45 a ticket and showing up early to get a table just to hear him workshop painfully new, untested, and very uneven material.  It's

I'll say.  Along with his mannerisms, patterns of speech, his "conversational" tone hiding this malicious true intent, etc..  I liked the scene, but it was so blatantly borrowing (to put it kindly) from the first scene in Inglorious Basterds it was almost distracting.

Fair enough, although I love Yoshimi.  I'm arguing with someone else below about their being lumped in with "hippie" stuff, and against calling their music merely recycled pyschadelia, and may have transferred some of that up here.  It is strange to me that they get put in that bucket, that they play those god awful

To each their own I guess, and obviously you can hate the band, but characterizing their music as merely "recycled psychedelia" fit only for frat boy dorm rooms is reductive and kind of ridiculous.  You may have heard "Fight Test" blasting at a college bar or two during the early '00s, but you can't discard

See, I actually don't think AWWTM is as bad as all that.  There are some good to great songs on that album.  Although the track titles are just fucking brutally long 'n precious.

Couldn't agree more.  I also saw a show on that Soft Bulletin tour in '99-'00 in a small, shitty venue and it was glorious.  Every time I've seen them at some festival or in a larger place it just falls flat.

I'm not sure you understand what "banal" means.  Say what you want about this band, but "dull and unoriginal," they're just not.

See, your timeline there ignores the existence of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.  What, exactly, is hippie-like about that record?

And so here's us… out on the raggedy edge.

Why would you need to apologize for, or get ironic about, loving this movie?  You probably love it because it's fucking awesome and you have good taste!  Except for Teadoust and someone called joelgord, we're all with you.

God, it's infuriating, isn't it?  I mean, The Sting?  You absolutey HATE The Sting?  Just . . . ugh.
