Great points Noel and Sir Osis.  I am admittedly a candy-apple about all things bodily fluids, and typically get very grossed out by such things, but with my own six-month-old I could care less.  It's one of the many cliches people spout off at you in irritating fashion before you have kids that proves incredibly true

Headin for the nineties, livin in the wild wild west!

I think the entire problem with The Lovely Bones lies in the fact that the story itself blows donkeys.  Jackson never had a chance to make a good movie out of it.  The fact that this book, much like those fucking dragon tattoo stories, was so ubiquitous never ceases to amaze me.  Although I do agree that Jackson's

Thanks much - sounds right up my alley, and also like a smooth transition to make from Game of Thrones, what with all the burly, sword-wielding Northmen and all.  I'll definitely give it a read.

See, I didn't enjoy Brooklyn.  I found the genre elements kinda boring, and while I sympathized with the narrarator his weakess and, I don't know, neediness I guess began annoying the hell out of me.  Whereas I really enjoyed Solitude. To each his own, I guess.

I missed the original recommendation - what did you like about it?  I'm looking for a break between "A Song of Ice and Fire" installments.

Ha!

I also just want to add my voice to the chorus of "thank you"s to Zack for these wonderful reviews.  It's really been a joy to read these every week, in fact frequently more fun than re-watching the episodes themselves.  So, thanks Zack.  Now how am I going to fill the void in my Thursdays?

YES!  Frakes is absolute gold, Jerry, GOLD.  Those ST:TNG discussions are great for many reasons, but I look forward to those Frakes/Sirtis posts to a degree that is, frankly, a little scary and a lot pathetic.  And, E.Buzz, I agree they are one and the same.

EXACTLY.  Every show doesn't have to be The Wire for godssakes.

Aaargh.  I really liked How To Make It In America.  Yeah, I know, low stakes, vapid lifetsyle porn, blah blah blah.  I still enjoyed it.  Where will I go now to see Lake Bell naked?

Thanks to all of you beautiful people, I have now assembled the most incredible Christmas music playlist for our first year hosting.  I heart you, AV Club.  Merry Christmas you old buildingn'loan!  Merry Christmas Mr. Potter!

I just… God, I wanted to like this movie so much, but I just fucking hated it.  I can't remember the last time anything angered up my blood as much as the last five minutes of this did.  I'm all for using ambiguity, but in a movie where the entire narrative arc and source of tension comes from whether the group of

Wait - no love for Frakes?  And, I'm with Scrawler: no disparaging of Cookie Monster allowed.

I'm not so sure about that.  Unless you want to see exactly how fast you can go from "falling asleep out of sheer bordom" to "absolutely infuriated" while watching a movie.

We don't wear pointy hats and fly around on broomsticks.

Yeah, Wrapped Up in Books was really awesome.  Some great discussions of Cloud Atlas, Blood Meridian, Riddley Walker.  So, I don't know what kind of "literature coverage" you're looking for, Belgian Waffle, but I gotta believe that providing an in depth discussion forum, organized by well thought out topics, that

Great call on Mirror Traffic.  That album is fucking awesome.

That's more like it!

Honestly, I really hope it does.
