I agree with your general point, but if being disappointed indicates that you find this out of character for Dowd or the site in general, I wonder if you should make that point and then see whether the response is along the lines of "hmm, good point" or maybe something like jlk7e's before addressing Dowd right off the

Holy shit, James Dean's still alive?

When I saw Pi, the projector went out of focus for about 10 minutes and nobody went and complained because, well, it seemed like a plausible stylistic choice.

Sounds like my wedding night.

In her what?

Keeps 'em away from being show runners, apparently.

Sounds like my wedding night.

It's funny, I saw this in 94 or thereabouts, then not again for another 10-12 years. In the interval I had kinda thought of the casting as Kate Winslet and WonderWhatHappenedToTheOtherOne. Then realized on second watch, that's excellent character actor Melanie Lynskie!

I like it too. Maybe I wouldn't say "great" but it worked for me. I.e., I cried. :-)

Could be, could be. (On both counts.) I don't dislike either of them, I just kinda suspect Pratt does what he does and there aren't hidden depths that will launch him into the status one of the handful of actors who are among the first choices for every script of every kind. But I wouldn't mind being wrong.

Well that settles it! I stand corrected.

Maybe it's possible that she's a limited talent and as soon as Parks and Recreation is over she'll be another tv actor looking for work and hoping for a hit series. I'm a little skeptical of the Chris-Pratt-is-the-next-big-thing stuff, but it'll be interesting to see, about 10 years from now, whether reruns of P+R

Yes, but all that peeling to get to your apartment is a bitch.

No one hopefully ages.

Well…I guess I mean, it still seems like 70s nostalgia supersedes all else, so they're still mostly defending themselves against the 70s (ie, boomer nostalgia). But sure, that could just be an aging x-er lamenting that his nostalgia isn't getting a fair shake, oblivious to "the kids" being inundated with all of it.

Fair enough. And I should say, I didn't go to Iraq or Afghanistan (and I'm more of a gen-xer anyway), so I'm not comparing personal experiences. I guess I'm talking about the (general, not necessarily your) tendency to equate an era with however it was experienced by people otherwise not discomfited by its big events

I get the deliberate humor of it, I swear, but of course it's also true that "except for that whole Vietnam thing" does sort of speak to why others can't stand (certain) boomers…the subtle hint that the 60/70s boomer experience means the experience as experienced by those for whom the war was an

I think Franko's talking about the movie.

Yes, if we weren't still stuck in nostalgia for the 70s. As it is, song still relevant.
