webcam monitor for windows OS's has been phenomenal for me. Supports USB, Firewire, DV, and IP/network cameras. Motion detection works great and you can set it up so many different ways (recording locally/ftp, remote monitoring, etc).

oh yeah, LogMeIn Rescue. the free version is OS X compatible both ways, but I guess they don't feel profesional tech support should be working from a mac computer (they can only remote to them)

Thanks Gina. By the looks of it, you can also do this with freshly-made rice. I currently freeze my rice in individual saran-wrapped bundles, but this would look much neater and keep portions constant

the traffic photos in my area (stamford, CT) are all from yesterday morning. maybe I can use them to study traffic patterns, but otherwise I'm not sure how useful this will be
