Agreed. I think she was predisposed to disliking him. Didn't Dern assume that Jane was also a nanny or was that a different woman? I thought her daughter with the obnoxious and pretentious name was showing learned behavior from her insufferable mother?

No word on whether his character listens to cheesy techno music like EN did in the last episode ever of True Blood.

I've been through the area before and the iconic Bixby Creek Bridge shot made no sense to me either.

I didn't see her as fearful. I thought she was assertive enough to stand up for herself the moment it happened.

It did seem like projection on his part about wanting to keep his sons away from Ziggy. He may be the real monster in this series.

Yes, I said the same upthread.

I didn't think Witherspoon's Triple M was a grown up Tracy Flick. I found that reference to be an exercise in intellectual laziness. Perhaps after I see the ENTIRE series, I might change my mind, but I don't buy it. NOW if you had Witherspoon as Dern's character, I think the Flick meme would be much more plausible.

Waiting for the HBO CEO of Tits (frequent AV club OP) to chime in 3-2-1.

Step into my office. 'cause you're fucking fired.

I'm not getting the Olyphant love people. Loved Deadwood, but don't enjoy seeing him in a comedic role at all. Would much rather have someone like Justin Kirk playing the part.

That jerk should have been the first one they whacked. He's a power hungry asshole trying to micromanage his neighbors. Fuck him.

Korl! It would be even funnier if you had Andrew Lincoln playing Rick as his wussy Mark character from Love Actually.

I just started watching TSCD last night and I think Olyphant is mis-cast. IMO, he's not believable. Have never seen Justified but a big fan of Deadwood, so something seems off or not right. This series was tailor-made for Justin Kirk of Weeds.

to learn more about bad Boston accents, see Costner, Kevin in Thirteen Days.

ITA. Said the same thing upthread.

Haven't seen it yet. Is the Paris scenario even plausible? Noah is still on parole, right? He can't just leave the country.

I stopped watching after S2. It was ludicrous that Brody was able to drive his SUV and park it RIGHT NEXT TO CIA HQ. The show is torture porn, albeit a slightly less ideological mess than 24.

Even in written form, it's still like nails on a chalkboard. It's the We Built This City of TV theme songs. I prefer fake themes, like the non-existent Carlito's Way theme in "Love" to Apple's song.

Finally finished the season last night…The kitchen scene between Gus and Heidi was painful. It reminded me of a scene (was it High Fidelity?) where the narrator is talking about how the little details about what draws you to that person are what ends up breaking them up. Heidi was revealed to be boring. She was

John Doman, who plays Helen's obnoxious and pretentious writer dad Bruce Butler, was also a full-time cast member of The Wire. He was generally a dick in TW too.
