Given the way Jadis/Anne had to negotiate to bring Rick to wherever he is, I think it’s somewhere you can’t simply ‘’leave’’ willy-nilly. Also, if they have to get there by helicopter it’s probably very far from Alexandria. Making it pretty hard for Rick to return without a lift back.

IIRC, Season 1 was considered incredibly good compared to what was available 8 years ago.
