True that. And, yeah, a good drummer is worth his weight in beer. But it's a small minority who will buy a record or see a show because of a good drummer.

I think the other dudes in Bloc Party might be missing the primary appeal of their band. Ripping of Gang of Four and Joy Division is no big thing. Having a singer with a unique and captivating voice is.

Exactly. See also, Ledger, Heath.

Tho', I have to say, one of my favorite distractions/reality checks when reading comment threads is when two or more unregistered commentors snipe and bicker among themselves I imaging it's one very sad, slightly schizophrenic dude responding to his own comments.

Well, okay then.
Time to dust off the registration. Thanks to the site admins who got me sorted with nuking a duplicate account.

My birthday, too, phel. Bloody Mary's before 10am damnit!

What the fuck indeed. Flop is right. I've never even heard of this. And I've spent a lot of time browsing the depths of Netflix.

Six of one…
The amount of stuff I've actively avoided is probably about equal to the amount of dire crap I've subjected myself to.

Fun AVClub relevent factoid
"Massacre at Central High" is "officially" old cult cannon. It's in one of the Danny Perry books; I can't be bothered to look in which edition. I do recall it liked it a whole lot.

I really need to check out Wrong Way Up - I can't believe I haven't heard that yet. I love his early quartet of solo records and really appreciate the ambient work. Hell, I thought "Another Day on Earth" (sic?) was a really, cohesive and interesting album. There's some great songs on it.

I missed a few minutes here and there
I'm going to have to watch this one again when it goes up on Hulu, but, yeah, wow. A great, tense but not overwrought conclusions to an increasingly great series.

Yeah, saying Madonna made Penn famous is pretty high on the internet-stupid meter. Like danrimage says, maybe it got him in front of a tabloid audience, but he was plenty famous for being a "young DeNiro" before then. I think you may have been too young to remember how hugely popular Taps & Falcon were; and, yes, in

Able
Yeah, I didn't really get the begging woman, other than some sort of symbolism 101. There was that comment that Gemma misunderstood as she was leaving, something about "Able" but I didn't really get either what the woman said or what Gemma thought she heard.

I SP Goths are the best
I haven't seen this yet, but I love the goth kids. The hair flip just cracks me up. I can't wait.

Volcano Suns predated Neutral Milk Hotel for quite a while (in rock terms), so I don't see how that's an apt comparison, but, you know, to each their own. But you've heard "Bright Orange Years…" right? Nothing mediocre about that record. And even their worst records always had a few really great stompers.

Volcano Suns
Nice call out in the first entry. Volcano Suns, sometimes I think I'm the only one who remembers them. That first album is definitely one of the finest moments of 80s post-punk. It's a shame it's out of print and unavailable.

Both Hey Ya! and In Da Club made me want to stab my ears before they were even two weeks old.

Yeah, sorry, Rodney. I appreciate your obvious affection for the band, but I can't agree with you at all about "More Fun" - just a tremendous album. I remember at the time being a little wary of it because it departed more from familiar X territory than I was using, but upon further listening there is nothing wrong

I say
Good for them. The older I get the less worked up I get about people cashing in on whatever little fame or success they've achieved.

Family Guy: The Racist Years
Yeah, yeah. I know. Family Guy pushes buttons randomly, nothing sacred, let's see what we can get away with, and all that… And, honestly, I'm not easily offended and generally think people are too sensitive about perceived slights. But did anyone else find some of the jokes FG a little on
