On the last sentiment. Both of the first two, please.

Life of Brian is definitely one of the best.

Onward to New Cult Cannon
So, I watched it this weekend, and I have to say it's right up there with Spinal Tap in terms of great rock 'n' roll movies. I was pleasantly surprised how much better was than I expected it to be.

It's really too bad that all anyone knows about Chumba is that song - which like ERD I like well enough now that it's not so ubiquitous. But they have some great records and some great songs, and their hearts were definitely in the right place, and they were funny as fuck.

I once interviewed Keely back during the "swing revival" and while it was a softball only affair, she had nothing bad to say about her former husband and the time she spent with him. I certainly wasn't looking for dirt, just to talk about music and a new record she had coming out. But she spoke fondly of her time with

Neon Golden is Great and all
Not to detract from that great, great album, but Shrink is also pretty amazing, though on a more free-jazz tip.

Yeah, I watched this
I tried to follow it when it was on network and I was in my, what, late 20s, being that my (now ex) wife was into it. Then I began to see the brilliance of it later on, and became its biggest champion for a while, even pre-ordering a box set that didn't exist until a certain number of people

The (Un)Proessional
Tarantino, yes. Scorsese, definitely. But it also rips very, very heavily from Leon (The Professional). As our own Oldman points out above, Defoe is basically playing a poor-man's Oldman. The flashback structure of the action scene is also done to better effect in Leon.

Ice Motherfuckin' T
Seriously, how did his cred ever recover from this.

Yeah well
Hate away, but Ferris is a fucking funny actress, regressive movie characters notwithstanding.

Heh. Oops indeed.

Oops
Officially revoke my hipster d-bag member card: I've never even *heard* of this. Looks absolutely awesome, and right up my ally.

Nothing Really Interesting to Add
Just, yes, News Radio is one of my favorite shows and holds up incredibly well, even to repeat viewings in the same month!

I'm Doug…
And you're Dad…

bago, actually I've never seen Dancing Outlaw. I just read the entire piece before making assumptions. And, my my seemingly dickish attitude aside, I entirely appreciate the discussion of this film - I think it's a fascinating and honest film, and one that gets unfairly misrepresented.

"…seems like a strange editorial choice, to pull a quote from one of the most obscure movies on the list (which I have seen and found slightly entertaining but troubling as well) and match it with a photo from the film that tops the list."

Dude is sooo not an outsider. He's a player who was wrecked by his oversized ego. A crazy visionary he was not. Or, to put it this way, crazy visionaries are often selfish pricks, but not all selfish pricks are crazy visionaries.

Yeah, I knew it would only be too long before someone leveled these very predictable criticisms at American Movie. I am in full agreement with AV Club on this one: AM is a testament to artistic vision that perseveres in the face of, well, everything. It's a fascinating study of class, art, vision, and the cost of

Nice
I don't listen to hardcore much any more, but that song fookin' rocked hard. My girlfriend listens to a lot of Minor Threat and Bikini Kill, and I've gotten her into some old school punk I used to listen to (Black Flag, Bad Brains). (And,. yes, it's awesome to have a girlfriend who listens to good music!) She
