I had a black 1989 GTI 16V. Diff pin let go and punched a hole in the transmission as I was moving to California. Wouldn’t mind that one back.

I think it’s less to do with the log manifolds and more to do with the 90 degree offset to the crank rather than being more of a flat plane like the Lamborghini version of the same engine.

I’ve been to a couple ALMS races where Judd V10 and V8 powered cars were competing. Couldn’t quite compete with the Audis, but they sounded good!

The Buick line up also has quite a few Daewoo/Korean-built vehicles in it... including the Encore. Seriously. Go look up for sale ads for new ones that contain the VIN number... note the first digit you see. First letter is country of where final assembly occurs... K is Korea. J is Japan. 9 is Brazil. 1 and 5 are

Oof. As someone who’s worked for a dealer whose brand (VW) is notoriously stingy on warranty reimbursements... Ouch.

I love racing for being the one sport where at the top level, women can compete with men. Biological women. Cisgendered, whatever you want to call it.

Depends on the level of racecar, I suppose. But at the same time there already are a number of biological women who compete at the same level as men in motorsport. That’s the great thing about motorsport is, while yes, it can be very physically intense, it isn’t necessarily about brute strength. It’s more about

THANK you for the reality check on that one.

I suspect the dual motor AWD version will be a decent bit faster...

I don’t hate it. Not a bad looking car. Lots of space, very utilitarian/practical.

Hope the engine was replaced with a new one. There’s so many pitfalls on EA888 engines it’s not even funny. And 2012 was the last year for the old style chain tensioner from the factory... so if I were a betting man, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out the cause of the previous engine’s failure was the timing chain

All 52 hp worth!

Yeah... that is pretty rad.

As Thirdmort mentioned, Bangle’s most panned design when new, the E60, has really aged quite well. It was almost jarring at first, just not something that felt worthy of replacing the timeless lines of the E39, but somehow we got used to it and even started to like it many years later.

I dunno about this. There is an infield road course at Auto Club that gets quite a lot of use thanks to its proximity to car-centric L.A.. You take that away, you take away a decent source of revenue for the track when a major event is not in town. Besides, L.A. is a historic and sports car town in which car owners

Good.

Yeah, that’s an American market car only as far as I know. And assembled in Tennessee.

I left the dealer a couple years before they started selling them, so no, I haven’t driven them. Though they are still just a variant of the MQB platform that underpins the Mk7s as well, so I’m sure chassis wise, they drive well

You worded it far more kindly than I would have.

I see you too prefer VWs that seem a little janky or maybe overly complex (like my Touareg).

I wouldn’t say they’re circling the drain considering they are trading off with Toyota for #1 mass producer in the world.
