507 is for DPF-equipped diesels. Mine’s old enough to not have DPFs. So, in order to protect the new cams better, I’m using something that’s not even API certified. It’s Red Line 5w40, which has more ZDDP than current API standards allow, plus its basestock blend of Group V esters and Group IV PAO make for a pretty

Dd you try to cross the escarpment on a likely not public, very uneven path carved out by a seasonal stream in your Civic?

I think that was only an option in Europe, though. I joined a couple Touareg groups and I see photos of such setups all the time on that side of the pond, but have never seen one in North America.

They are indeed awesome. That reminds me, I made a large post in Oppo back in March or so about my 2004 Touareg project... V10.

That’s not normal level of pressure for a cooling system. Normally, being as careful as he is, you could get away with opening the cap slowly and letting the pressure out, and it wouldn’t take a super long time. But this car has a massively blown headgasket to have that kind of pressure in it. Not good!

I rather like the ovals. Better than NASCAR circle track racing, anyway! Stupid speeds and the current aero kit means drivers really have to drive them since the downforce has been reduced. It’s a pretty intense show on many of the ovals. Really excited to see how the Gateway (St. Louis-ish) race turns out. One of my

The straight 6 diesel is pretty fascinating to me. Didn’t see it coming (but I don’t follow Land Rover news that closely). I knew about the TDV6 they’ve had for a couple years already in the Range Rover and the like (the F150 diesel is based on the same basic engine).

Let F1 keep this shitshow up. Maybe IndyCar will continue to pick up disaffected viewers from both F1 and NASCAR. Authentic racing without the intervening BS from the governing body.

Looks kinda cool... the powerplant is a bit of a letdown, but then again, most were in the early 90s. heh

Potential interesting/obscure swap candidate? If I found a clean one, it would be interesting to drop a VW diesel lump in there and daily it. Would make quite a bit more power than the original motivation at least.

I wanna see F1, LMP and IndyCar manufacturers adopt them and allow them to explain to us how they’re superior—and prove it on track.

Ain’t technology grand? All these fancy 4 wheel independent suspension German SUVs have some real trick programming in their ABS/traction control modules to aid in off road ability and it flat out works astoundingly well and makes your job as a driver much easier and less harrowing.

I’m not one to shy away from things needing mechanical restoration, but if it’s got rust holes, I ain’t messing with it.

Most truck owners definitely don’t seem to have fuel economy high on their list of concerns. It’s more a functionality/looks/capability contest than anything from what I know, which is probably why I’ve stayed away from trucks as much as I can... I’m a cheap ass.

Well written indeed. I came in towards the end of Davey’s tenure, Ray Wert wound up running things for a bit and Murilee Martin (Judge Phil to 24 Hours of Lemons cretins) was a regular contributor. This site had it going on. Numerous editors who never were Jalopnik contributors have also been writing of their fond

I seem to remember another country with sophisticated and complex, cutting edge machinery during WWII. Of course with such complexities comes the inability to produce mass amounts during war time or the ability to service them quickly when damaged or just plainly need routine service.

It can also be that the guys running the dyno have not accurately compensated for the gearing and tire size of the Z4. That sort of information is seemingly more difficult to get out of automakers than it used to be, so if they were guessing at the total ratio (individual gear the run was in and final

On principle (and paper), the turbo 4 is a great engine for these smaller Porsches.

Linked below is a short article with a chart made by an economist (though in this day and age of misinformation, it’s difficult to know how accurate something like this is, if at all). It has been repeated on a few different sites. Although at a glance it largely looks reasonably accurate, it does show average hourly

As much as I love VW products, I’d probably stay away from the GLI. The EA888 engine family is nothing but trouble (I have a 2013 Audi A4 Allroad at my shop now with an engine from the same family whose timing chains, despite having the “updated/better” parts from the factory, still stretched the chain and jumped time
