Agreed. I drive a base 997 from 2006, with crank power around 320, and I’ve never said to myself, either on the street OR on the track: “This thing really needs more power.”

Completely agree, Torch. And what is high horsepower these days anyway? In the 1990s, 276 (the Japanese Gentleman’s Agreement) was monstrous. I am still impressed by 250HP in a car if it is light and nimble enough. The Miata has plenty power for its weight. Give me superior handling over a high number nay day.

Balance is a really underrated thing in modern cars. Take the Hellcat, for example. I’m glad it exists, it’s insane and wild and ridiculous, but I have always preferred the 485 HP Scat Pack models instead. That’s still a ton of power, but for that size and weight it’s perfect enough to be fast and usable.

Work trip with inflexible dates. Ugh.
