My thing is that I was even kind of on-board with the freakout— flying sucks, everyone has a bad day, w/e. But where she really crossed the line for me is taking a pic of the person who ended up in the seat and posted it for the world, which she DAMN WELL knew could lead to that person getting a ton of hate for taking

That recent JK Rowling tweet honestly remains so timely. If you're fine calling a woman a bitch or a whore or dragging her looks because you think you're on the "right" side…. you're the worrrrrst.

Delta's first twitter response was such good shade. I mean, all this over a $30 issue? Isn't Ann Coulter, like, loaded from all her hatework?

Damn, young Bruce Springsteen was a hottie.

Yes girl peck those gays! Ungentrify them from existence henny!

It would be a twist if the white walkers are defeated and Daenerys claims the throne all in this half of the season, but she become the "secret final boss" of the final set of episodes that Westeros unites against. Maybe a whole "abolishment of monarchy" storyline? Wishful thinking, I know.

My guess is that Sansa "I know how to play the Game of Thrones cuz I wear black now" Stark will string Littlefinger along and carry out a double-cross, but (depending on how dark they want to make things) she might not survive it.

I think it'll eventually help. They continuously need to winnow the cast since it's always growing. Blowing everyone to smithereens last season was a decent way to 'hard reset' and retain focus on the main players again for the final run.

We have something like that where I live, except it's an orthodox Jewish sect. Creepy and probably illegally breaking a bunch of child labor laws, but damn those pancakes are like manna from heaven.

It reminds me of that 30 Rock joke I love, of Liz and Jack thinking "Puerto Rican" is an offensive slur

The issue is that *he* doesn't think he's mocking his friend— he genuinely pities the poor dullard who doesn't know anything because she has "only" a high school degree.

She's a cute girl who admits to going on Reddit and posts "ugly" pics on IG. Practically Frida Kahlo in middle America's "not like other girls" index.

What gets me is that I already more or less knew most of these consequences of climate change from other sources— but seeing it all laid out clinically in one place was still a gut punch.

Cuz she's quirky and different, but in a palatable, cute, (white) way that America doesn't find threatening.

Just watched it and I agree with you. I think I would be more sold if they called this some sort of prequel series, Chapter 0, etc. As it is it feels like a (very) extended trailer.

True— big budget movies tend to have a high bar to clear with regard to being too "formulaic" (and imo, rightfully so). I don't think the bar moves artificially though, but rather big budget movies are more likely to color within the lines to please the studio. They make boatloads of money by giving audiences mostly

On the contrary, I think Iggy is just disappointed that after making the relatively bold move of deciding to tell the story from the apes' perspective, they don't capitalize on the shift much because they are inevitably constrained by the formula. I think he's pretty much on board with the apes being the good guys,

I haven't seen the movie, but it appears Iggy's issues are not with the casting choices or roles but rather with the performances themselves being a bit derivative or underwhelming (eg. Harrelson "doing his best Marlon Brando" and Caesar "glowering through the movie").

Re: Laura Linney and Xerxes, the problem is less that she's devoted to her brother and more that she allows the guilt of being 'normal' to trap her from having a somewhat ordinary life, and she probably uses it as an excuse to play it safe and get out of taking her own leaps of courage. Notice at the end of that scene

On the other hand, I'd say a B/B+ is an appropriate rating for formulaic-done-well. It's not a bad grade by any means. I like the idea of A/A- grades being reserved for those movies that are not only technically great and enjoyable, but also contribute something original to films.
